    We discovered this style of weaving and absolutely had to share it with you all. Why is it so shaggy? This type of weaving is used in Guatemala to keep tortillas warm. The shagginess of the fabric helps trap heat to keep the tortillas warmer for longer. We have now used this weaving method to make pillows! How could we not? Our Rosa tortilla tela pillow is a colorful mix of magenta with red, yellow, purple, royal blue and teal threads woven in to add texture and vibrant color.     These gorgeous handwoven double-weave quilted pillows are hand made in Gujarat India. Now only three families in India make this specialized weaving style that dates back to the 1860s. Each square is hand stuffed with cotton batting as its woven. Same fabric on both sides of pillow. Pease inquire if you'd like a different size. Poly-cotton blend. 19" x 19" with down alternative insert included.

After obsessing over our vintage pieces from there for many years, we are excited to say that we have found both the right artisans to work with as well as the correct weaving materials, we are able to bring back this virtually extinct weaving style from the grave. Bold colors and lines of hand dyed ikat (jaspé) are integral to this design, as well as the untreated almost raw feeling cotton in vibrant colors. The final result is almost indistinguishable from its vintage counterpart. Please note: this item is hand-dyed and handwoven, and will have imperfections that make it all the more unique and beautiful.
